1992
Passion and an Aspiration
Seeking a more wholesome family life, Jim (our owner and founder) departs Hamilton Standard as a mechanical engineer, pursuing his passion for automobiles, working out of his home garage in the early days.
1993
Halcyon
Jim founds and opens Tariffville Auto Repair, leasing a property on Main Street in Tariffville.
1996
Growth
Jim connects with the owner of another well established & respected local auto repair facility, located in the Herman Drive industrial park, Foreign Car Cure, and makes the decision to purchase the business from him. Tariffville Auto Repair merges with Foreign Car Cure, and the business moves to Herman Drive.
2005
Rebranding
One of Jim’s best friends Jon Powell, an architect by trade, develops a board game as a whimsical method to unveiling a company name change, and the new name is discovered within this playful match. Translating to “Good Auto” in French, the name also shares a name with Germany’s famous high speed roadway in a play-on-words, hinting at the vehicles we specialize in.
2006
Autonomy
The future home of Auto-Bon is acquired on Wolcott Road, under a business expansion plan in becoming more independent by moving away from leasing, increasing visibility on a higher traffic roadway, and broadening usable square footage for more flexibility in our day-to-day operations.
2007
Renovation
The newly acquired building, Culbro Tobacco’s old maintenance garage, is heavily renovated, overseen by both Jim and Jon, combining their visions and respective areas of expertise.
2008
Fruition
Auto-Bon moves from Herman Drive to the Wolcott Road building, a grand opening / after hours event celebrates our move and newfound freedom.
2014
Roof Renewal
In a continuous effort to maintaining our facility, we replaced our existing roof with a 40 year rubberized roof system, a large undertaking involving cranes and lifts.
2015
Straight and Narrow
We acquire a full alignment system from a closing Mercedes-Benz dealership. This was a game-changer for our operation, and served as a gateway to other various equipment upgrades.
2019
Halo Illumination
A new landmark sign is commissioned in the wake of Jon Powell’s passing, honoring his paradigm.
2019
Ascension
Our upstairs facilities are finally completed, along with installing a long-awaited spiral staircase in our lobby, which was integrated with the original design plans, but required a specific stair system which took us 10 years to locate.
2020
Challenge Accepted
Our team discovered that our facility's entry foyer would serve as a lifeline for our business during the COVID scare. Thanks to its unique design, it was able to be utilized as a contact-free "safe" room for service drop-off and pick-up.
2021
Restoration
Our workshop’s floors are leveled and refinished with a Stonhard epoxy floor system, a massive undertaking requiring the entire service area be emptied of all equipment and contents.
2022
Level Up
Our team encountered a repetitive pattern of road-force balance needs. Due to the spectrum of vehicles we service, along with changes in industry standards, we purchased state-of-the-art tire mounting & balancing machines from Hunter Engineering, adding to our impressive arsenal of service equipment.
2023
Open Sky
Due in part to an incurable disease strain, our L-shaped canopy of pine trees required a large-scale removal effort, for both safety and orderly reasons. A storage outbuilding where the trees once stood offers more protected / efficient storage opportunities with safer parking options.
2024
Utility Boost
A multi-purpose Roadside Assistance pickup truck is added to our service spectrum, doubling as a facility maintenance utility vehicle.
2025
Continuous Enhancement
Our waiting area is rearranged to accommodate a work bar so that clients have the choice of perching on a bench and working with a coffee and laptop at the bar (with device charge ports), or sitting comfortably in a chair while their vehicle is serviced.
